Training

training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, Titus 2:12

God is willing to train us if we let Him. He wants to be our personal trainer, to help us say no to the things of this world and sin. He promised us the Spirit of self-control so that we can live right even in the midst of darkness. I admit self-control is one area that I struggle with. I do great if I can just avoid things. If I can’t there are more times than I care to admit, I give in to the fleshly desires. I realize when I stay plugged into God, He empowers me and trains me for that purpose of living godly. He doesn’t just define that as my Sunday morning duty but the calling on my life in every moment. He will train and empower me to do it, if I just draw closer to Him.

Lord, in a world full of coaches and personal trainers I can think of no better trainer than You. Keep me close to You so that I can receive that training in all areas of my life, not just where it feels comfortable.
