There is No Serendipity with God

Serendipity is the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

So often we when step out we look back and think it’s serendipity. With God, nothing happens by chance. He knows the beginning from the end, even though He gives us free will to choose.

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.Psalm‬ ‭139:1-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

God’s will for us is always for our benefit. Even when it does not seem like it in the moment, there is something in the process that will benefit us.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

With God there is no such thing as serendipity. He knows us. He has the steps of our life written down, so it is not by chance. Everything He calls us to us for our benefit.

About Jackie S

I have been through a lot in life, but through Christ I am more than an overcomer. I am not perfect, I will never claim to be. Praise God I am forgiven though. I am rather opinionated. I see most things in black and white and believe honesty is always the best policy. This combination sometimes comes off harsh. The truth is I love people. I truly love helping others and try to believe the best about others. It is easy to find faults, but focusing on strengths is more my style, but I also shoot it straight. If it sounds harsh, know my heart is for something better for you.

It’s such a comfort to realize that God knows us and all the plans he has for us. It may look like serendipity, but it’s not merely chance!

What the world calls serendipity, I think of as God’s grace-notes. Little gifts that delight and amaze me with his beauty, creativity, or power. ‘Serendipity’ was also the name of a horrible grammar workbook I had to slog through in 8th grade because I was ahead of everyone else in my class 😆. I feel like the horror of that tedious book has been set aside by all these beautiful posts on serendipity ❤️
