Love Like Him

““You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.Matthew‬ ‭5:43-45‬

It is in our actions, that do not look like the world, that we are recognized as sons and daughters of God our Father. It is when we can love those who are against us, we are like Him. It is when we pray for those who persecute us that we look like our Father. It is when we can bless those that are trying to curse and destroy us, that our sonship shines through for others to see.

God didn’t just want us to love fellow believers and those who love us. He stretches us to love like him. He loved us enough to die for us while we were His enemy.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Romans‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭

Since He died for all He calls us to love like Him.

Prayer – Lord, I know what times I fail at loving every one, my neighbors, fellow believers and certainly my enemies. Lord, I pray for all to come to know You, my neighbors, my family, and my enemies. I pray that those I love and those I haven’t learned to love yet will come to an encounter with You that would forever change their lives. I pray they would not only come to know you, but that everything the enemy meant to destroy would be used for your glory and your honor. That the enemy pays back sevenfold what he has stolen from your kingdom and what we have wrongly given to him in our complacency. Teach all of us to love like you.
