In the Beginning

Genesis 1:1 (NKJV) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

John 1:1 (NKJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Genesis and John both begin with “In the Beginning.”   In the Beginning God.  In the Beginning was the Word.    One of the first blogs I wrote was about a message originally preached by Chris Jackson called First that was based on Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.   Evangelist Jackson used the acronym FIRST – Finances Interests Relationships Stuff Time.   For whatever reason, that has always stuck with me.  It was the first thing I thought of as I read this passage comparison.

God wants to be at the beginning of our day, your month, your year.  God wants to be at the beginning of our finances.  He wants to be at the beginning of our interests.  He wants to be first in our relationships.  He wants to be first in all our “stuff.”  He wants to be first in our time.

However, as much as God wants to be first and the beginning, God is the Alpha and the Omega, He is the Beginning and the End.  He does not just want our beginning.  He wants our end.  He wants everything in between.

BeginningWhen we have mastered putting Him at the beginning He looks at and says “That is good. However it is just the beginning.”  We can’t surrender all, until we have surrendered the first.  What God really wants is all our lives.  We start by giving Him the beginning, but God is waiting for the surrender of all.  He wants access to it all.   He wants all our finances, all our interests, all our relationships, all our stuff and all our time.

It is not that He needs it all.  It is that He knows that when we surrender all to Him, He can give it back to us with His measure.  He then has us where He can use anything in our lives to bless us.  He can use anything in our life to reach others.  And everything in our life will give glory to Him.  When He has access to it all, there is no area in our life that will not shine for light into the darkness.
