“Standing close to Jesus’ cross were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there; so he said to his mother, “He is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “She is your mother.” From that time the disciple took her to live in his home.” John 19:25-27
Did You see her face?
Did it bring You Strength?
Did it cause You more pain?
As You were baring the weight of it all?
A mother’s love,
The pain in her eyes and face
Watching her beloved Son die.
Yet, knowing You took her place.
Was she first on Your mind
As You hung on the cross?
Seeing her pain
Not yet understanding Your grace.
Did you try to warn her,
To save her the heartache?
Letting her know the grave
Wouldn’t keep You.
We think about the mother’s
Love for her son
But You loved her too
It’s clear from the Word.
She stayed close to You
Even to the cross, You cared so much
You asked Your beloved
To care for her to death.
