Spirit Realm

“But you belong to God, my children, and have defeated the false prophets, because the Spirit who is in you is more powerful than the spirit in those who belong to the world.” ‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭

Too often, I see people giving the enemy too much credit. They sign over power to him that he doesn’t have. People will often mistakenly think that Satan and God are equal adversaries, they are not. God is more powerful than any spirit in this world.

I was raised in a Baptist church. There was limited talk of the things in the spirit realm. I knew Holy Spirit as Comforter, Teacher, Counselor and Guide. I am blessed with a strong foundation in the Word. I was regularly in the Bible before I understood the importance of planting the Word in my heart. I still know many of the verses in KJV.

When I first encountered true spiritual warfare, I was armed with the Word, but knew nothing of what I was facing. I remembered

“And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭17‬ ‭

And

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬

When demons started tormenting me, I only knew to call on Jesus. I didn’t know about authority or power, I knew Jesus. I was so frightened; I would be frozen in bed saying “Jesus” or singing “Jesus loves me” and “Greater is He that is in me” over and over. It was all I knew and even that was remote knowledge as I left church when I hit my teen years.

I am sure at that time in my life I had opened the door to allow the tormenting, again not knowing what I was doing. I don’t remember how long that warfare lasted. I don’t remember how it actually went away. I just know it did.

Shortly after that time in my life, I started submitting more of my life to God. It would be years before I fully understood what I had walked through and why. I had an amazing mentor and Sunday School teacher who took my knowledge of the Word and taught me about the spiritual realm.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬-‭13‬

I won’t pretend to be an expert. I have no desire to entertain demons. However, I also have come to know that I have nothing to be fearful of wither because greater is He (Holy Spirit) within me than he (Satan and his demonic forces) that is in this world. I know that Jesus overcame Satan on the cross and that the battles I face take place in the spirit realm.
