“Be kind and honest and you will live a long life; others will respect you and treat you fairly.” Proverbs 21:21
Honesty is an important key to any relationship. The Bible tells us benefit of honesty with kindness is a long life. It is also being respected and being treated fairly. Imagine if every relationship was filled with kind and honest communication.
- How would your relationship with your spouse change?
- How would your relationship with your child (ren) be different?
- How would your relationship with your family or in-laws be different?
- How would your relationship with your coworkers or employer be?
- How would things be different in communication with your peers?
I know, I can already hear the rebuttal. You don’t know my ___________ (fill in the blank with your difficult person here). I hear you!
There will always be “that person.”

The one who is not kind, but instead brutally honest (that was me with no God-sized filter on my mouth and life). Or the one who couldn’t tell the truth if it would earn them
a million dollars. Or even the one who cant communicate, or communicate well at all.
Your actions are not dependent on what the other person does or does not do. Be kind anyway. Be honest any way. Communicate and
clarify what you hear, what you want or need anyway.
Maybe sometimes you won’t be respected or treated fairly. Do it any way, don’t let a few people’s actions make you act outside of your good character, outside who God wants you to be.
Do it anyway because our actions are not for the approval of me. Do it anyway because in obedience to God’s Word, He will be the One who is glorified. Speaking the truth in love, or honesty in kindness will reap His rewards. Regardless of how men respond, God will honor His Word when we honor Him with our actions. So do it anyway!
