Knowing God

“But the earth will be as full of the knowledge of the Lord’s glory as the seas are full of water.” ‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2‬:‭14

What an amazing thought that the world will have knowledge of God’s glory. The devotion this morning described this as an intimate knowing, like Adam knew Eve. It is a beautiful picture.

I spent much of my Christian walk knowing about God, but not knowing God. I didn’t know he desires a personal relationship with His children; let alone with me. When I learned about having an intimate knowledge and relationship with God my life started to transform.

It wasn’t an overnight change, it was gradual. Things started to drop off my life. My temper was changing, it didn’t go from zero to 100 in the drop of a hat. I stopped looking at everything through a negative lens. I started seeing the fruit of the Spirit being produced in my life. I was more joyful. I felt a peace that transcended my understanding.

I can only imagine the whole world also experiencing this transformation. The things that would stop or decrease, could change the world. Imagine anger and selfishness replaced with love for others, with joy, and peace. What a wonderful place the world
would be.

Holy Spirit has the ability to reveal to us things that we have not seen, hear or known. Holy Spirit had not come when Habakkuk write this scripture. I Corinthians starts with that reminder, but goes on to tell us because of Holy Spirit within us, we now have the mind of Christ.

However, as the scripture says, “What no one ever saw or heard, what no one ever thought could happen, is the very thing God prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God made known his secret by means of his Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, even the hidden depths of God’s purposes. It is only our own spirit within us that knows all about us; in the same way, only God’s Spirit knows all about God. We have not received this world’s spirit; instead, we have received the Spirit sent by God, so that we may know all that God has given us. So then, we do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths to those who have the Spirit. Whoever does not have the Spirit cannot receive the gifts that come from God’s Spirit. Such a person really does not understand them, and they seem to be nonsense, because their value can be judged only on a spiritual basis. Whoever has the Spirit, however, is able to judge the value of everything, but no one is able to judge him. As the scripture says, “Who knows the mind of the Lord? Who is able to give him advice?” We, however, have the mind of Christ.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬-‭16‬ ‭

We don’t have to wait for the 3rd coming of the Lord to earth to have the intimate knowledge of God and His glory. Through relationship with God and the in dwelling of Holy Spirit, that gift is available now.

Lord, thank You that we do not have to wait in darkness not knowing You as we love our lives. You have given Holy Spirit that we might know You intimately. Thank You for wanting to know us personally and for opening the doors through the death and resurrection of Christ for us to know You personally also. Reveal Yourself to me in deeper measure as I draw near to You this year. In Christ’s Holy name I pray. Amen.
