What You Think You Know

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭

I love this scripture. I first learned it in King James Version as a child, I love to read it in other translations as it makes me think about it indifferent light. Like the wording in this version “Never rely on what I think I know.”

It’s easy for me to get focused on what “I know,” and not allow Holy Spirit to bring new revelation. I know a lot of Scriptures, but if
I don’t apply them to my life do I really know them? It’s a level of knowing, but I havent engaged the information. Into my life.

Since the Word of God is living, it may have different meaning in my life at this moment
than it did last time I read it. I need to stop relying on what I think I know. It could lead to complacency.

If I stop and remember the Lord in everything I need He can show me right now what’s needed. He can show me how to use what I
know to help me in ways I would never even consider. It is like how GPS routes us because it doesn’t know what we know.

My husband and I were going to friend’s house a few weeks ago. We were driving on a donut tire waiting for a new wheel to come in. We did not want to drive on the interstate. My car’s GPS system didnt know that. It kept trying to route us to the quickest path. Then, we ran into road closures due to a Christmas Parade. Again the car GPS system did not know that. It knew what it knew, how to
get there. We had to keep questioning what it knew until we got past the parade and the last interstate connection.

If we allow Holy Spirit to guide us, He will keep questioning what we think we know until He gets us to His desired destination. He knows what we don’t know; He sees the obstacles that we can not. He knows the lessons we need to walk through, not avoid for
the next stage of our journey. He will show us the right way.

Lord, I know that I rely too much on what I think I know and not enough on the direction of Holy Spirit. Lord, I acknowledge my need for You in everything I do. I need Your direction because You know what I don’t. You know that path I need to take to get me where You want me to be. Help me to remember You in everything I need, and to lean on you consistently. In Jesus name, amen.
