Two or More

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Matthew 18:20

Today is Veterans Day. As I was driving to work, the radio was sharing life tips from veterans. Being part of something bigger, being someone others could depend on were included in those tips. With God we are called to be part of something bigger than just me also. To join together with others, to invite him to dwell among us.

We first joined together in relationship with our spouse.

and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. Mark 10:8

So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:6

Jesus sent out the appointed two by two. Lets us know what’s important for us to have someone we can walk with in our ministries.

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. Luke 10:1

And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. Mark 6:7

The Word also tells us that two are better than one.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. Ecclesiastes 4:9

He also tells us that there need to be at least two witnesses for charges against another.

Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 1 Timothy5:19

He also calls us to pray in agreement.

Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19

It is easy to want to seclude and deal with things on their own or with God when we hit trouble. That is not the way that God planned for people to do things.

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Genesis 2:18

We were made for community. We were made for agreement. We were made for accountability.

Prayer – Lord, help me to live and stay in community. Let me keep You the center of every relationship.
