“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:1-4
There are a lot of people who believe that all religions are the same. I have heard people who believe that all religions point to the same god. This passage shows the difference. Followers of the God I serve will confess Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the holy Son of God. He came to earth as man, lived a perfect life, and willingly sacrificed Himself as atonement for the world’s sins. He was buried and rose again in three days. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of Father God. Jesus will return one day and in the mean time Holy Spirit is here to guide and empower His followers.
It is by that confession that we can test the spirits. It is easy to want to believe that there is only good spirits, but that could not be farther from the truth. The enemy has spirits, demons that are also here on earth. There are other entities that roam this earth in the spirit realm that are meant to draw us away from God.
“They sacrificed to demons that were no gods, to gods they had never known, to new gods that had come recently, whom your fathers had never dreaded.” Deuteronomy 32:17
We are told we do not need to be afraid of these spirits. We are to test them. Although they know God, they can not stand in the power of the name of Jesus. In Jesus name, demons were cast out of people.
We are to realize the Spirit, Holy Spirit inside of us is greater than any spirit in the world. We can overcome them by His power. Over the past century or so Christians have sat back and allowed these false spirits to influence every aspect of our culture. We kept quiet, and instead of overcoming we have been succumbing. We need to instead remember we are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world.”
