Be Intentional

“And He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up His hands He blessed them. While He blessed them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God.” Luke‬ ‭24:50-53‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The last thing that Jesus did on earth was bless those He led to Bethany. He could have given them instructions, do’s and don’ts about how to carry on in His absence. He could have prayed for them. He could have given them a list of things He expected them to do next. Instead He blessed them. It doesn’t say He blessed them and then left. He blessed them as He was leaving. As a result of Him blessing the disciples and those there, they returned with joy to the temple and begin blessing God. When we are aware of the blessings of God, we are naturally inclined to want to bless God back.

Sometimes it takes intentional effort on our part to count our blessings. We have to stop and really think about all the little and big things that God does to bless us. It has to be intentional because we get too comfortable. It has to be intentional because at times we get some idea that we deserve the blessings that God has bestowed on us. It has to be intentional so we will give back what’s been given to us. We have to be intentional because it’s too easy to forget all of our blessings with all the negative in the world around us.

Prayer – Lord I know that I am blessed. There is no question in my mind that blessing comes from you. Let me live a life that blesses you in return.
