What is in a Name?

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

The other day my friend and I were talking about the meaning of names. My names is derived from the name Jacob, meaning “Supplanter” but also means “may God protect.” I want to be known as one God protects, not a supplanter.

Jesus is the name above all names. Yet, His name means so many other things. I think of all the names in the Bible for Jesus, God, and Holy Spirit. There is wonder in their names. The names can be very specific yet the names are also so broad.

Prayer – Lord, let me never loose my wonder in learning more of You. I want to learn Your character so that I can let You live through me.
