In the Image

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”Galatians 3:13

The first time I read Jonathan Kahn’s devotion “God in the Image of Man” it really hit me. “On the 6th day of creation God made man in His image. On the 6th day of the week, the day of man’s redemption, man caused God to bear the image of fallen man…when you look at the cross, you are beholding God in the image of man.

When reading this, I immediately think of the crucifix that is the emblem of religion. Jesus nailed to the cross. Yet, in my belief, the cross is empty because Jesus did not stay in the image of man. He overcame sin and death. If He stays on the cross, the sin He took upon Him is not finished. Jesus took it all, He became our sin, every single sin ever committed. He died. He rose again overcoming death and the grave. He ascended back to heaven.

There is reason for Him to bear our sin again. There’s no need for the constant reminder that He took on the image of man. Yes, He can relate to everything we walk through because He was fully man. But, He is no longer in our image. He is God and only bears God’s image.

Lord, thank You that I was made in Your image and that You took everything that was not in Your image upon Your Son Jesus on the cross. Thank You that He didn’t stay in man’s image but instead over came death and came back to You. In Jesus name amen.
