Loyalty

But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Ruth 1:16

Loyalty, it is a rare commodity in our society. Usually everything is about “what is in it for me?” However, Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi was not just a blessing to Naomi but led to the future King of Israel. Through Obed, Jesse, and David, came the lineage of Jesus also. An outsider was redeemed by Boaz. Ruth was an outsider. What if when we are loyal, it leads to the blessing of others and not just those involved in the moment? What if it leads to the blessing of those yet to come? God was loyal to His promise even though it cost Him His Son. In the end His Son is seated of His right hand. What we give freely often comes back to us.

Lord, let my loyalty to You be contagious. I want to go where you go. I want to abide with You. I want to love Your people because You are my God.
