My Refuge

Scripture – This I declare, that he alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I am trusting him. For he rescues you from every trap and protects you from the fatal plague. Psalm 91:2-3

Thoughts about what this Scripture means – God promises to be my refuge, my place of safety. He is my God. I can trust Him. He promises to rescue me from traps and protect me from plagues.

Application to my life – A refuge is a place of protection from danger or where one has recourse for and relief or escape.

Safety is freedom from the occurrence or risk of danger of loss, rescue means to free or deliver from confinement, violence, danger or evil.

A trap is any device, strategy, trick or the like for catching a person unaware. To protect is to defend or guard from attack, invasion, loss, annoyance, insult, etc. cover or shield from injury or danger, plagues are any widespread affliction, calamity or evil especially as a direct punishment from God.

Because He is my God, I can trust Him. When I feel in danger, I can go to Him. He will protect me. I don’t have to be caught unaware because He knows all things. He has already saved me from punishment.

Response – God You are my shield, but I have to go to You for coverage. You can give me relief when I’m overwhelmed. You can keep me from harm. Lord, I can’t protect myself or provide relief, please take away my self preservation defense and let me find refuge in You instead.
