Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Romans 12:6-8
gifts – Strong’s G5486 – charisma – a gift of grace; a favor which one receives without any merit of his own; denote “extraordinary powers, distinguishing certain Christians and enabling them to serve the church of Christ, the reception of which is due to the power of divine grace operating in their souls by the Holy Spirit”
prophecy – Strong’s G4394 – prophēteia – a discourse emanating from divine inspiration and declaring the purposes of God, whether by reproving and admonishing the wicked, or comforting the afflicted, or revealing things hidden; esp. by foretelling future events, of the endowment and speech of the Christian teachers called prophets
service – Strong’s G1248 – diakonia – service, ministering, esp. of those who execute the commands of others; the office of deacon in the primitive church
teaches – Strong’s G1321 – didaskō – to be a teacher (see διδάσκαλος,6) of those who in the religious assemblies of the Christians, undertook the work of teaching, with the special assistance of the Holy Spirit
exhorts – Strong’s G3870 – parakaleō – to address, speak to (call to, call on), which may be done in the way of exhortation, entreaty, comfort, instruction, etc.; as in Greek authors, to admonish, exhort: absolutely,
gives – Strong’s G3330 – metadidōmi – to share a thing with anyone, to impart: absolutely, he that imparteth of his substance,
leads – Strong’s G4291 – proistēmi – to be a protector or guardian; to give aid
shows mercy – Strong’s G1653 – eleeō – to succor the afflicted, to bring help to the wretched, to experience mercy
God’s gifts are granted by his grace to each believer. Alls us to steward them faithfully and to exercise them as he provides opportunity. I believe at times God gives us a gift to use for a specific time. At other times God makes it available for ministry, I believe these gifts are the irrevocable that Romans 11 speaks about.
for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11:29
irrevocable – Strong’s G278 – ametamelētos – not repented of, unregretted:
Lord, help me to really understand Your gifts and calling on my life. Give me Your wisdom to operate in Your grace and power to fulfill Your will in my life. In Jesus name amen.
