Fasting and Feasting

“Then the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying, “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘The fast of the fourth month, The fast of the fifth, The fast of the seventh, And the fast of the tenth, Shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts For the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.’” ‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭8‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭‬‬

There are many feasts in the Jewish culture. This prophecy for the city of Jerusalem that others would ask to join the fasts for they would see that the Lord is with the people of Israel. The fasts are followed by feasts. The feast was full of joy, gladness and cheerfulness for the house of Judah. The feast was full of love, truth and peace.

What can I learn from this passage about fasting?

• There are times of fasting and also times of feasting.
• Fasting and feasting are also about the state of joy, gladness and cheerfulness, peace, love and truth in one’s life.

Lord, help me to know when You are calling me to fast and when You are calling me to feast. Help me to walk in Your joy, gladness, cheerfulness, love, peace and truth. Amen.
