But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
For you shall go to all to whom I send you,
And whatever I command you, you shall speak.
Do not be afraid of their faces,
For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord. Jeremiah 1:7-8
Although at times I still want to claim to be young and use it as an excuse, I know I am not. As a Christian, I am older than most adults my senior that are believers. Regardless, I still try to make excuses to God. When I start to make an excuse, I find He says “Do not say…whatever my excuse may be”.
The reason He says “Do not say…” is because
- If he sends me, He will equip me.
- If I feel unprepared, He will prepare me.
- If I feel unqualified, He qualifies me.
- If I don’t feel smart enough, He reminds me that foolish things can confound the wise and that I have the mind of Christ.
- When I wonder what I will say or if I can say the right things, He reminds me He will give me the words.
- When insecurity rises up its head, He reminds me not to care what others may think or say, only obey Him.
- When I feel like I can not do it “on my own”, He says I’m with you.
- When I feel like people will be against me, He reminds me no weapon formed against me will prosper.
- When I feel like I will fail, He reminds me I am more than a conqueror.
It is easy to want to make excuses as to why I can’t do certain things for God, but ultimately I can do all things to Christ who gives me strength.
Lord help me to let go of my excuses. You are bigger than any excuse. Help me to release my excuses to You, surrender and obey.
