But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.
For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. Galatians 1:11-17
Although Paul was raised in the learning of the Bible, his teaching did not lead him to Jesus. It was through a personal encounter, in the revelation of Jesus Christ, that Paul was called. He said it wasn’t man. He wasn’t taught it. It was a Holy Spirit revelation.
So many looked to man for teaching, but only Holy Spirit has the ability to reveal. We have the written word of God also. Not that we shouldn’t be taught by men, but how much more should we receive revelation from Holy Spirit and through God’s Word for ourselves.
Lord I love you and I ask for a deeper and clearer revelation from You. Help me rely more on You than on man. Give me a deeper understanding of Your Word and a deeper love for reading it. Open my heart and ears to receive from Holy Spirit more consistently.
