I said, ‘Surely you will fear Me,
You will receive instruction’—
So that her dwelling would not be cut off,
Despite everything for which I punished her.
But they rose early and corrupted all their deeds.
“Therefore wait for Me,” says the Lord,
“Until the day I rise up for plunder;
My determination is to gather the nations
To My assembly of kingdoms,
To pour on them My indignation,
All My fierce anger;
All the earth shall be devoured
With the fire of My jealousy.
“For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language,
That they all may call on the name of the Lord,
To serve Him with one accord. Zephaniah 3:7-9
So often we want to take revenge in our own hands, but punishment belongs to God. God wanted the Israelites to change as He corrected them but instead they continue to rebel. SO instead God warned He would pour out His wrath on them. God would hold them accountable. He would purge and purify. Jesus took the wrath upon Him at the cross. However the Lord still disciplines and prunes us.
Lord, please help me to accept Your correction and never face Your wrath. I want my life to please You. Thank You that Jesus took the wrath upon Himself so that I would not have to spend eternity away from You.
