Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.” Luke 3:21-22
I never noticed that Jesus was praying at his baptism. While Jesus was talking to God, God was speaking over him. Prayer is a two way conversation and this example from the life of Christ is an example for us. When praying we need to give time for God to speak to and over us. Nail line while Holy Spirit will not likely descend on us like a dove, we have Holy Spirit within us. While we may not hear his audible voice, his still small voice still speaks. He may guide us to scripture. He may send someone to confirm what we hear in our spirit. He desires to speak with us, but we have to be willing to listen to what he says.
Lord, speak to me. I am listening. I want to hear Your voice. I want a two way conversation with You.
