You Sent Me

So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.” John 11:41-42

This was Jesus prayer at the grave of Lazarus. Jesus knew what he was about to do. Had confidence that his father would hear the request. Speaking out loud for the benefit of those standing with him. He was validating his identity to those around.

There are many times that Jesus prayed and healed someone and when asked who did it, the person healed could not pick Jesus out of the crowd. He didn’t point people to Himself, it was to God in Heaven.

How often are prayers now prayed for those listening to think about the person praying? The person prays to elevate their status, their heart might be to pray for the need but they are still wanting people to notice them. We have stopped doing anything that doesn’t get us likes or numbers even those who are doing things for God.

It has to be about God and for God and in order to do that it cannot be about me. Jesus even being God, didn’t point to Himself; He pointed to God. That is our example. We have to know that God hears us. People should know God sent me, not question motives.

Lord, I want to point others to You in all I say and do. Help me to get out of Your way. I know You hear my prayers, but let me only speak the words that You would have me to speak. I want others to know You sent me to pray and to speak.
