Appointed in The Church

And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.“

God made each of these roles for His Church. They are in order for a reason, although I can’t explain it, except that the first three are people who instruct in some way or fashion and the last are a physical act that is carried out. It is clear that all should be available in the Church. Many churches skip over the the miracles, the gifts of healing and the helps. Although sometimes helps comes when it is convenient or reaches a certain level – people visit the hospital or make meal trains, but there is rarely actual care being provided, more resources or company. If He appointed them to the Church, where are they?

Some say that these roles died with the disciples and apostles, and maybe they are right, but if God is the same why would He change things for the New Testament Church. I understand the old and new covenant changed things, we are on the side of the finished work of the cross, but we are also on the same side of the cross as the New Testament Church. And if the roles died why are we still using church administrations and teachers which are prevalent in most denominations today.

I believe that all of these roles and gifts could be available if we did not limit God. He appointed them to the church. If we took Him at His word, and if each person in the body of Christ took action on the gifts and promptings of the Holy Spirit. I have seen glimpses but I want to see this as a reality in the Church today!
