Selfishness

Selfishness only causes trouble. You are much better off to trust the Lord. Proverbs 28:25

There are many benefits of trusting God that leave us better off. If I have my trust in God, I don’t have to worry about myself because God cares more about me than I do. When I was a very selfish person (versus just a little selfish now), I knew that my priority was me. I was concerned about making sure I was taken care of. And really I wanted to be more than taken care of, I wanted to be the center of other’s thoughts and deeds. I wanted to have my needs met above everyone else’s. That’s what selfishness is and I have been very selfish in my life.

If I am trying to meet my own needs or get others to have their sole focus on meeting my needs, I’m not trusting God. “Looking horizontally” as Paul David Tripp says “for something that I should be receiving vertically”. If I have my trust is in God as comforter, provider, peace, love I don’t need others to do it. God will use others but not in my selfishness which usually entails manipulation, but out of His desire to me be my provider, comforter, protector, etc.

Lord please continue to work on my selfish ways. Increase my trust in You. In Jesus name Amen.
