”“God is wise and powerful! Praise him forever and ever. He controls the times and the seasons; he makes and unmakes kings; it is he who gives wisdom and understanding. He reveals things that are deep and secret; he knows what is hidden in darkness, and he himself is surrounded by light. I praise you and honor you, God of my ancestors. You have given me wisdom and strength; you have answered my prayer and shown us what to tell the king.”“
Daniel 2:20-23
Daniel knew that it was God alone that could shed light on what the King of Babylon had dreamed. The king had asked the impossible of his wise men; to not only tell the meaning of his dream, but tell him the dream itself. When they could not do it, He ordered their execution. When Daniel learned of the decree, he asked for more time. Then he went to seek the Lord. He didn’t take a chance, he asked for his friends to pray as well. He knew there was power in numbers and agreement.

”Then Daniel went home and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah what had happened. He told them to pray to the God of heaven for mercy and to ask him to explain the mystery to them so that they would not be killed along with the other advisers in Babylon” Daniel 2:17-18
Daniel 2:20-23 is a part of Daniel’s praise to God for answering his request. When Daniel shared the dream and the meaning, he gave all the glory to God. Daniel not only saved his life and that of his friends, but the other wise men as well. The same men that would later turn on him for the favor he received. In addition, Daniel’s gift brought glory to God.
”The king said, “Your God is the greatest of all gods, the Lord over kings, and the one who reveals mysteries. I know this because you have been able to explain this mystery.”“ Daniel 2:47
I think we often take for granted what God really can do. He holds all wisdom, yet I know there are times I question His ways. He is all powerful, yet at times I question if He will use it to help me. He controls time, yet I question His timing. He controls the seasons, not just of the world but in my life as well. He knows how long they need to last and can see the last thing fall or the birth of something great and take me into the next season of my life. All authority comes from God yet we often disagree with who is in charge.
God is the one who gives wisdom and understanding, yet we exalt worldly knowledge that is often overturned when new facts come to light. God knows all and sees all, He is able to reveal the things that are done in secret or in the dark. He can bring those hidden things into the light if we will just seek Him.
What would happen if we really turned to God in those moments when we are facing the impossible? What would happen if we believed that with Him nothing is impossible? What would happen if we set our hearts to seek Him and asked others to join us for our prodigal children, the sickness, disease, addiction and sin that is plaguing our communities? What would happen if instead of taking to social media we asked God to reveal the truth of what is going on in marriages, families, businesses and government ? What would happen if we asked for wisdom from Him daily as Daniel did and set out to honor God with everything we do?
Lord of the impossible, thank You for the testimony of Daniel to show that nothing is impossible for You. Help me to pray like Daniel did, with faith and consistency that You are who You say You are. Give me faith like Daniel to ask You for bold requests that not only benefit me but that give You glory and honor. In Jesus name. Amen.
