Prophesy Fulfilled

A child is born to us!
A son is given to us!
And he will be our ruler.
He will be called, “Wonderful Counselor,”
    “Mighty God,” “Eternal Father,”
    “Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6

The world was looking for a warrior savior, but Isaiah prophesied a child would be born. The Wise Men understood, the Shepherd received the news but the world as a whole slept through the birth of the savior. He didn’t look like they expected. Often in my life have I missed out on God’s blessing because they don’t come in packages as I expect? God gives us what we need but it often comes in a different package like a baby instead of a mighty warrior.

A son was given to us. This points to John 3:16 that God gave the world his son because of his love for us so that we could be reconciled back to him for eternity. Jesus was known as the son of man and the son of God.

Jesus’s rule didn’t look like a golden scepter or iron fist. He came and fulfilled the law. He ruled over death and the grave. He allowed people to willingly submit to His rule. Submission was never forced.

I love God as Wonderful Counselor because I know He has my back as a counselor. I believe there’s nothing too big for God that people encounter. As a counselor, He held those who called themselves His followers to a higher level. For example, the Old Testament stated “an eye for an eye” but Jesus counseled “turn the other cheek, pray, and forgive those who hurt you”.

As Mighty God, The people expected Jesus to exert his might through physical power. Instead, Jesus demonstrated healing power. He went to the sick and the sinners with His power.

As Eternal Father, Jesus was rebuked for speaking as an equal with God and calling Him Father. People didn’t understand Jesus’s claims to have always been.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He offered His peace as He left. Three times He spoke peace to His disciples immediately after His resurrection.

There are so many facets of who Jesus is. All of these were prophesied and completely fulfilled in Jesus.

Prayer – Lord thank you for the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Help me to follow his example.
