Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God;
he created all the world.
He never grows tired or weary.
No one understands his thoughts.
He strengthens those who are weak and tired.
Even those who are young grow weak;
young people can fall exhausted.
But those who trust in the Lord for help
will find their strength renewed.
They will rise on wings like eagles;
they will run and not get weary;-
they will walk and not grow weak. Isaiah 40:28-31
I often work with older clients who find comfort that some of the things they are are facing and attribute to aging come to people of all ages. The seniors just happen to have more time to stop and think about it. Learning that being sedentary can actually increase the feeling of being tired, is helpful in giving them a reason to stay active with their bodies and minds.
What is true in the natural is also true in the spiritual. We were designed to have and keep our hope in Jesus. When we look to Him for our strength we can find a renewed energy that often carries us in the physical, emotional and mental.
Some of the most active and oldest seniors I know are the ones who truly abide Christ. He is such a regular part of their lives; I don’t have to ask to know they give Him the credit in casual conversation. It is just who they are.
I would love in the natural to soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. Even as I write that I feel the conviction that just as I maintain a regular abiding in Christ, I need to be consistent in walking and running if I want to have that endurance.
I already know that health is where I want to focus next year. My word for the 2024 year is health. I see this as a passage to help me stay consistent because I need the same endurance I have built in my spiritual life in my physical life as well.
Lord thank You for this analogy and for the work that You have done in my spiritual and mental life. I am ready to surrender the physical also. I need to develop consistency in my health and need Your help. In Jesus name amen.
