Human or Godly Wisdom

See to it, then, that no one enslaves you by means of the worthless deceit of human wisdom, which comes from the teachings handed down by human beings and from the ruling spirits of the universe, and not from Christ. Colossians 2:8

Human wisdom is deceitful. It changes frequently. One day eggs are bad. The next they are the best food for your body. Fill in the blank and watch the trends change. The Bible teaches all things in moderation; science ends up getting there eventually on most things. We do become slaves to the trends – I need to cut out carbs. I have to cut out fat. Or cut out dairy, gluten, or processed foods (that might not be a bad thing) but it’s not a lifestyle that can be maintained because our bodies need the nutrients from each of the food groups to some degree.

There are also teachings handed down by the ruling spirits of this world. I listened to a teaching recently that was very much wrapped in biblical truth. It did not settle well with me because it was taking a worldly concept and making it okay. The enemy mimics what God does; so it is not surprising that there would be scriptures to back this practice. However taking something from the world and calling it okay is a dangerous slope because we are told as believers to not be conformed to this world.

I didn’t post my opinion on the influencer’s page, but I did share with her my concern that in teaching the practice is biblical she ran the risk of leading others astray. We are to imitate Christ, not the things of this world. I shared with her my concern that people might take her stamp of approval and end up practicing a cultic principles because they don’t have the knowledge of God. The principles are biblical; the practice isn’t necessarily. Giving a stamp of approval opens the door to the enemy. I wanted to warn her as a believer without starting a war with her followers.

Lord, I realize I know very little in the grand scheme of things. Give me Your wisdom that I not be enslaved by the teachings of this world or the ruling spirits of this world. I ask that if I am misled, You will make it clear to me. If I am operating with Your discernment remove the veil that is on my Christian sister’s eyes. In Jesus name I pray amen.
