Designed with Purpose

God has made us what we are, and in our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

This is a familiar passage, one I have journaled on many times. This translation gave me a different perspective as often is the case. Maybe it is related to another writer I have been listening to and the self reflection her book is causing. Her book is called Everyday Genesis and it is her master thesis on how God continues the creation cycle. This book and my devotional for today by David Paul Tripp had me reading from Scriptures comparing Genesis 3 to Ephesians 2. Genesis is where man taken from the garden due to sin and Ephesians is us being reconciled back to God.

God made me what I am. He designed me for a purpose, a life of good deeds that he had in mind when He created me. Most versions use the word “masterpiece” in this passage. When I think about a masterpiece, I think of a fancy piece of artwork on display. I don’t think of purpose.

God made me for good work and since I know that to be true, why would I think in His design He would not prepare me for those things? It is Holy Spirit within me working out the good things God has made me for. Even when trials and setbacks come, there is a divine purpose because God will use it for His good. I can stop fretting in this revelation, God made me and equipped me. Yes, my calling will require other people but He has put in me, and each of us, what is needed for the part He created us and designed us for. He will do the good works through us if we submit.

Prayer – Lord thank You for this fresh outlook on how You made me for a purpose and in that design is what I need to fulfill that purpose. I pray that You align me with those I am called to walk alongside of and those who are called to help me. Lord You made me, equipped me, and will complete Your purpose in me as I surrender to You. Help me to be obedient and willing. In Jesus’ name amen
