“Let us examine our ways and turn back to the Lord. Let us open our hearts to God in heaven and pray, “We have sinned and rebelled, and you, O Lord, have not forgiven us.” Lamentations 3:40-42
The first time I really remember feeling led to pray corporately, this is similar to the message I felt led to pray. But, I didn’t. Simple words “Repent, turn back to God.” that is what was on my heart. I had imposter syndrome surrounded by pastors praying for revival. I kept quiet. I did pray what was on my heart and in line with what the others in the group were praying. Yet, because I didn’t pray it out, this always stays with me. I have learned there is no revival without repentance.
It is only when we confess our sins that we are forgiven. Forgiveness is completely available because of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, but our part is confessing. Not just saying the words, but following up with action, turning and walking away from our sinful ways. It takes self reflection, but we also need a reflection by the corporate body. A reflection that leads to repentance for how the actions and inactions of the Church have led to the decline of His body and the impact of that on our society.
Lord, turn our hearts back to You. Let us not only express we are sorry but let our actions show our repentance so that we may walk in Your forgiveness. Lord reverse the negative effects of our sin and it’s impact on our society. We know that nothing is impossible for You. In Jesus name, amen.
