Shut the Door

On that same day Noah and his wife went into the boat with their three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and their wives. With them went every kind of animal, domestic and wild, large and small, and every kind of bird. A male and a female of each kind of living being went into the boat with Noah, as God had commanded. Then the Lord shut the door behind Noah.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭7‬:‭13‬-‭16‬ ‭

The last line really stuck out to me as I listened to this passage this morning. The Lord shut the door.

How many times have I felt like a door closed in my life and that it was a bad thing? How many times have I blamed the enemy or someone else for the shut door? How many times have I felt shut off from the world around me? Or have I felt ill-prepared for what felt like isolation from the world around me when the door shut? Noah was prepared for God to shut the door. God had set up the things Noah needed and the people Noah needed to be with him for this part of his journey and afterwards. Only then did God shut the door.

I realize that God has shut doors in my life too. Sometimes I went kicking and screaming, pounding on the door wanting it to open back up. I have sat and played the “poor me” tune with my back against the shut door. I have feared missing out of what was on the other side of the shut door. Every time though, God has prepared me for what was needed on the other side of the shut door. I have always had the people I needed on the other side of the shut door. I have has what I needed when he shut the door. Even if I didn’t realize it in the moment, God prepared me.

God saved everything Noah would need when the ark door was ready to open back up. That is something only God can do. If we let Him, He will do the same in our life. If we stop and think about it, we will praise Him because He has all our life.

Prayer – Lord thank You for the doors You have shut in my life, You have always has something better for me. Thank You for keeping me safe and preparing me, even when I didn’t realize the door was going to be shut. You have always taken care of me and I am so grateful. I do ask Lord, help me work with You instead of against You. Help me follow Your instructions for the things I need to be prepared for the future. I love you and ask this in Jesus name amen.
