““ ‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.” Leviticus 26:9
This verse is tucked away in the book of Leviticus, full of laws and commands given to Moses by God for the children of Israel to follow. This chapter lists the blessings and the punishments that are connected to following or disobeying the commands.
God doesn’t just give a little blessing for our obedience to Him. He is a Father that gives good gifts, just as I want to give my own children. He looks favorably on His children, just as I do my own. I love to see my children doing the right things even now as adults. I look favorably on them when they success and thrive as individuals, in their family, and their careers. I often look at them in awe because they are so favored. God also wants to make His children fruitful. He wants are lives to be filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness and self control. He wants to bless us with the fruit bore out of relationship with Him. It is fruit of obedience and abiding.
He wants to multiply us. Yes, that may mean in the natural through children. I believe it also means He has the ability to multiply our influence. He multiplies our ability to serve others and help multiply His kingdom through the seeds we plant. He is the one that brings the increase. He keeps His covenant to us when we are obedient to Him. His Word does not return void. Just as a parent, I do my best not to break my promises to my children, God’s best is flawless. His timing may not match what I want. The answer to His promise may not look like I expect. The journey to the promise may be harder than I want. But God never breaks His Word.
Prayer – Lord, thank You for Your instructions and the choice to obey and be blessed or to disobey and face discipline. I am thankful for Your discipline because it helps me to grow and change for Your purpose. Your blessings in my life are many. Continue Lord to help me obey so that You will look on me with favor. As I abide and obey You continue to grow Your fruit in my life. Lord multiply me so that I can help multiply Your Kingdom. In Jesus name. Amen.
