He Provides

The Lord said to Moses, “Take some of the leaders of Israel with you, and go on ahead of the people. Take along the stick with which you struck the Nile. I will stand before you on a rock at Mount Sinai. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” Moses did so in the presence of the leaders of Israel. The place was named Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites complained and put the Lord to the test when they asked, “Is the Lord with us or not?”” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭17‬:‭5‬-‭7‬

Massah – Temptation – Tempted to evil

Meribah – Contention – Argument

God told Moses to use the same staff to give water to the Israelites as he did to bring about the plagues as God told Him to use for the plagues in Egypt. The stick was actually Aaron’s. Aaron used it to turn the Nile river into blood and to bring the frogs.

So Moses and Aaron went to the king and did as the Lord had commanded. Aaron threw his walking stick down in front of the king and his officers, and it turned into a snake. Exodus 7:10

Based on all the Israelites had seen up to this point, how could they argue or question if God was with them? How they could be tempted to do evil is difficult for me to understand.

Yet, I know in my own life there are times that God is not moving in my time frame and I question “Are you there or not?” I know even in the past few months as I have stepped out, when I hit roadblocks I have been tempted to question “Is this what God really told me to do?” It doesn’t matter that God has provided every step of the way. He has given me reminders, just as the stick would have been a reminder to the Israelites of God working on their behalf. God doesn’t generally do things as I would have Him do or in my time frame. However, God is always faithful to His people and provides what we need.

Prayer – Lord, I am sorry for questioning if You are with me. I am learning still through the process to trust and depend on Your timing and Your ways.
