His Platform Alone

The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had: He always had the nature of God, but he did not think that by force he should try to remain equal with God. Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took the nature of a servant. He became like a human being and appeared in human likeness. He was humble and walked the path of obedience all the way to death— His death on the cross. Philippians 2:5-8

Our society has become a place where everyone wants a platform to elevate themselves, that is not the example Christ set for us. He humbled himself as a servant even to death. I’m in the process of starting a business that really focuses on self-promotion, building a platform, getting followers and reaching the masses. I don’t see myself following the world’s instruction. I know the message God has inside of me is for people and I will follow the direction of Holy Spirit but I don’t want a platform.

Jesus said  When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to me.” John 12:32 All this pointed out the death that Jesus would die, I believe it also points to spiritual sense. Our goal is Christians is to provide direction To Christ, not ourselves. Making a platform for myself it is me who is being lifted up, not Christ.

I am reminded that many ministries have people followers, not Christ followers. People recognize the name, not the message of Christ; even if that is the heart of the person, the platform still becomes theirs. I would rather see people draw into closer walks with God for themselves than to remember it was me that shared the message. I don’t want people to look to me, but to God. They have the same access to Him as I do. I may fail them, but He never will.

My husband mentioned a name to me Friday, there are TV shows and movies about him. I knew the name because it had been publicized so much recently but I had no idea why there was so much talk about the person. My husband explained who the person is. I know the product of the person’s creation but had no interest in the man that would cause me to know who he was.

I’m afraid in our society we know the name of Jesus but don’t understand what he produced for us. The Message is so diluted into so many other names that people are not going to Christ, the Word. (John 1) We read the words on a screen and we never go to the Bible for ourselves.

People take a secondhand information and because His word does not return void, instead believe that it is the person on the platform who has been promoted who held the key to the change. We forget they are servants of God not God himself. And maybe some on the platform forget that also. Ultimately I see the danger in the platform. Jesus came to serve and we are here to serve. Service doesn’t need a platform it just needs a vessel to pour from.

Prayer- Lord, I want to be a vessel for you. Let everything I write, everything I do, everything I produce to point back to you. I want to elevate Christ not myself so I ask for the wisdom and how to do that best. Jesus came to serve and I’m here to serve alongside Him. Let my words lead back to Your word. You alone hold the answers that people need. In Jesus name, amen.
