Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12
I don’t think any of these come naturally. Rejoicing in hope should but at times even that seems foreign as I expect something bad to happen. We discussed this in women’s Bible study last night. There was a consensus that when things are bad and we’re in the valley we look up to the Lord. We know that He holds a solution. We have our trust in Him alone because we know we can’t face the valley on our own. Yet on the mountaintop moments, instead of looking over to the next peak or up to God, we often waste it look down waiting for the next trial.
I feel like I’ve learned to be patient in tribulation. The only way to get past tribulation is to get through it. I want to get the past tribulation and I realize not having a good attitude just makes things that much tougher. I have learned to listen to Holy Spirit and course correct when I lose my patience.
Constant in prayer. Even when I’m really needing an intervention, I fail here. Sometimes I pray a lot. Other times I fail completely. It is cyclical with me. Although I desire that close relationship with God, I do let other things get in the way.
So how do I push past the flesh and make this scripture reality? How do I rejoice even in the expectation and desire of a certain thing to happen? I make sure what I am hoping for is in line with God’s word. Then despite the wait, I can know that it will happen; His word does not return void.
How do I stay patient in tribulation? I keep my focus on God. He will not let me be overtaken. I have to stay abiding in Him.
How do I be constant in prayer? I can stay in constant prayer because abiding in Him, I will naturally be speaking to Him!
Lord my hope is in you. Help me to rejoice in that hope as my will aligns with Yours. Remind me the fruit of Your Spirit is patience and that it is in tribulation that patients grows. Let me abide with You and in You that I may stay in constant contact with You in Jesus name amen.
