Hungry

“Arise, cry out in the night,
at the beginning of the night watches!
Pour out your heart like water
before the presence of the Lord!
Lift your hands to him
for the lives of your children,
who faint for hunger
at the head of every street.”
Lamentations 2:19

My children may not be physically hungry, but I believe they are all spiritually hungry, which to me is more important. I raised them in church but now each has to decide for themselves to maintain that relationship with the Lord that each began in childhood.

I was listening to a book recently that spoke of my children’s generation and that many are spiritual revolutionaries leaving the church, but staying in relationship with God. There’s something to be said for those young people but we all need Christian fellowship and accountability. Children need to stay connected to God and other believers.

I also believe that I’m called to stand in the gap for others children as well. There are likely children in my community who are physically hungry. The last time I checked one in every four individuals were food insecure, that number includes children. I know that there are children in the world who are hungry and need clean water. If their physical needs are not met, it is unlikely their spiritual needs are either.

Lord I cry out to You on behalf of those children who are hungry. I lift up those in need of spiritual nourishment including my children, grandchildren, nieces, nephew, cousins as well as every child in this world. More than food which is temporal they need You eternally.

Lord You have also always met the physical needs so that those You encounter could receive from You spiritually. Lord opened the hearts and hands of Your children that we would provide the physical nourishment needed for the children of this world. Fill their bellies with food and water and their souls with Your Spirit. In Jesus name Amen.
