Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil Proverbs 3:7
I’ve learned I’m not as smart as I used to think I was. I think we all get to that point in life where we realize there is much more that we don’t know than what we do know. Every now and then I will surprisingly stumble onto something I did know but forgot I know. Those times excite me now.
As Christians, we have to realize our wisdom is nothing compared to God’s. We have to stop thinking we are “all that” because only God is “all that.” I am reminded of a few clients I’ve worked with who will recount a conversation with someone else who actually said “I am the smartest person in the room.” That’s a pretty prideful thing to say and I question if they are Christians because Holy Spirit resides in every believer and He is much smarter than any person.
A wise person will fear the Lord and instead of running towards evil they will run towards God.
Lord, help me to not think I am wise than I am, but instead to rely on Your wisdom. I do fear You in reverent awe Lord. Keep me turned from evil.
