Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
Forgiveness is a powerful thing, it sets us free from chains of bondage that were never meant to hold us. Jesus forgave all at the cross. I think about a young man that for over ten years he carried unforgiveness. I can not imagine what he went through. However, God does know what He went through. God has forgiven him and the person who wronged him and his family. My heart hurts for him, as I can see his pain. I also see what unforgiveness is doing to him and that is even sadder. He is being held captive in a cage of his own making.
God knows the weight of unforgiveness. He tells us first to be kind and second to be tenderhearted. When those come first, forgiveness is easier to give. Our actions against each other may be less.
Lord, I know kindness isn’t always my go to behavior. Help me to be kind, tenderhearted towards others. Help me to be quick to forgive as Jesus forgave me. Lord I pray this this young man and his family, help them to find forgiveness and walk out of the cage. In Jesus name. Amen.
