Ask, Seek, Knock

And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Luke 11:9

Ask – Lexicon :: Strong’s G154 – aiteō – to request for oneself

Seek – Lexicon :: Strong’s G2212 – zēteō – To seek in order to find, (search for, try to obtain)

Knock – Lexicon :: Strong’s G2925 – krouō – To knock on a door (strike a surface noisily to attract attention especially when waiting to be let through the door.)

Ask. I often struggle with asking God for things for myself. God has blessed me more than I could ever deserve and I know there are so many with needs that really require His intervention. Yet He tells me to ask. As I wrote this I immediately heard myself telling a client yesterday “Just because others are dealing with something bigger does not mean that it negates your needs or feelings.” They are not mutually exclusive, that perspective comes from a poverty mentality.

God can handle the impossible, even while answering my request. He tells me to ask, not just for others, but for my wants and needs too. He wants to answer. He has more than enough ability to meet the little and big needs that are brought to Him.

Seek. I like to look up information. I like to search for answers and obtain new knowledge. The internet is always a quick go to, but God wants me to seek out the answers and information from Him. He wants me to seek His wisdom. That might be done in prayer, through the Bible and in seeking godly counsel, but it should be my first resort and not my last.

Knock. God wants to open doors for His children. Not just the door of salvation, but I believe to other things as well. His Word says He desires to give us the desires of our heart. That means we are going to knock on a lot of doors of opportunity. My job is to knock. His job is to open the door.

If the door doesn’t open I have to be the one to keep knocking. It may not be His time just yet. If I walk away from the door, He might call me back but I could miss the opportunity if I’m not there to walk into that open door. He has the ability to tell me to walk away from a door if it is one I should not be knocking on.

I have to stop weighing my needs with the needs of those around me. God is big enough to answer both. He is big enough to answer all. Nothing is impossible for Him. He is waiting for me to ask, wanting me to ask so He can answer. He also wants me to seek out His wisdom and guidance. He should be my go to, not my last resort for answers. God wants me to knock on the doors of opportunities that I desire. He will open those that I should enter, although it may not be in my timing.

Prayer – Lord, I ask You to help me to get better at asking for my own wants and needs. Give me the desire to seek answers and information from You first, not as a last resort. Help me to knock on the doors of opportunity that really interests me and not be afraid to pursue what You have placed in my heart. The door may not always open, but it won’t be open if I don’t start knocking.
