For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed. Hebrews 12:11-13
There is so much in this passage. Discipline. No it is an aerial lacking in my life. It is also translated chastisement. The greek word is:
Lexicon :: Strong’s G3809 – paideia –
- the whole training and education of children (which relates to the cultivation of mind and morals, and employs for this purpose now commands and admonitions, now reproof and punishment) It also includes the training and care of the body
- whatever in adults also cultivates the soul, esp. by correcting mistakes and curbing passions.
- instruction which aims at increasing virtue
- chastisement, chastening, (of the evils with which God visits men for their amendment)
God is trying to correct areas of my life so they can yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness. He cares not just about my soul, but also my mind and body. He is calling me to discipline the temple He has entrusted to me. It will require a strong body, knees, and feet for the path that takes action on my part. I have to step back into discipline, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I need to be disciplined with the gift of writing God gave me. I need to discipline my body with the food I eat and physical activity. Most importantly I have to discipline myself to get back to listening and sharing what God has entrusted to me with others.
Lord forgive me for wasting so many of the talents You have blessed me with. Help me to discipline myself to strengthen my body to walk the path that You have for me. In Jesus name. Amen.
