my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

There is so much in this scripture, which also mirrors 2 Samuel 22:2-4.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. The Horn of Salvation – Where I can go even when I have messed up – Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, Luke 1:68-70

My strongholdO Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to you shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say: “Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit. Jeremiah 16:19

In my mind, how I see God from this passage is He is the firm foundation on which my faith is built. He is a place where I can live in safety. He causes me to escape from danger, He is God! He alone is my source of strength. He is a person and place of trust always. He is my protection. He purifies me, saves me, and provides me sanctuary. He is my stronghold that protects me when I’m under attack.

So often we look to people, to relationships to fill these roles in our lives. But God is able to do it all. He is the complete package. it is such beautiful picture!

Lord, help me to truly know you as the characters described in this passage. Get it from my head knowledge to my heart.
