Joy from the Mourning

For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
Psalm 30:5

I am familiar with the last part of this verse, but how powerful is all of it together. Often the enemy tries to make us feel like our sin and failure cause God to be angry with us. Anger is but a moment, God sees us through the blood of Jesus. We are favored by Him for a lifetime, because Jesus took all His anger on the cross.

We can repent and allow our sorrow for the night but we need to let joy of the Lord meet us and strengthen us. No matter what we are facing it will pass. If it is causing this grief, or fear, or pain, regardless of how long it feels like the night is, it will pass. Bad relationships feel they will never end. It may feel like nothing will ever change, but God’s favors for a lifetime and eventually joy will come. Poverty and lack of resources are not the end of things. Joy will come eventually. We often think everything has to change in order for joy to come; but often joy comes in unexpected ways.

His favor may not change our circumstances immediately but He does change us in the process. He changes our perspective so that we can experience His joy. When we get our eyes off the circumstances around us and turn our focus on Him, He can turn our mourning into joy.

Lord, I love You and I know sometimes I’ve allowed my perception of You to be skewed by my sin and failures. Forgive me Lord. Help me to find Your joy and see Your favor in Jesus name amen
