Getting my Attention

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24

I recently heard this scripture preached. I laughed out loud when it showed up in my devotion. On Monday I jokingly said to someone else who made the connection, on a message she recently heard, that God must be trying to get her attention by about something she needs to learn. This repeat was God getting my attention. My friend was actually was the one who shared the first message on the scripture entitled “3 little pigs”.

I ask God, “OK what is it You’re trying to get my attention on regarding this passage”. “What is it You want me to learn?”

My word for this year, in 2021, is stepping out. I immediately know that hearing the Word is not my problem. I daily hear the Word. I also know I am not building a house. I firmly know my life foundation is Christ. So I can know those aren’t the areas He is trying to get my attention either.

So I know that my stepping out is about doing the Word of God. I need to do what He tells me to do. I need to do what is in His written word and those still small voice instructions. I know there is still an internal struggle in me to step out in eternal ways. I can identify what is holding me back, but I still need to learn to step out anyway.
