For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Psalms 86:5
There is something about the desire to be loved that causes us to do strange things. Whether it’s trying to be someone we or not or going out of our way to express our feelings to another, the desire to be loved is a compelling thing. For some is it a tug of war between wanting love and being fearful of the total vulnerability true love requires.
Yet in God, we are given a perfect model of love. His love is eternal. It is good. His love does not hold on to past mistakes. His love is abundant and is available to all. It is not just that God loves, but He is love. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
God is good. There is nothing bad in Him. Even when the evil in this world and the evil actions done by us causes consequences that are bad in the moment, Christ will in turn work it out for good in the end.
God is forgiving. He forgives as far as the east to the West. He holds no records of our wrongs. To love like God, we have to forgive like God. Our love must be plentiful and unwavering as Christ’s love is for us. Christ loved so much, He gave up His life while we were still sinners. He gave up fellowship with the Father and became our sin. The only way our love can be like His is to let Him love through us. His love is for all who call upon His name. We are called to love others too.
Lord thank You for Your goodness towards me. Thank You for Your forgiveness. I praise You that Your love is not dependent on me but is unwavering and plentiful. Help me to love others as You have loved me. Help me to point others to You so that they might call upon Your name and receive Your goodness, Your forgiveness and Your unfailing love for them also.
