Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
Imitation is said to be one of the highest forms of flat rate. I know there have been many times in my life where I have tried to be like others. I wanted my prayers to sound as structured, as scriptural or as eloquent as another. I wanted my writing style to match this person or that person. As a younger person, I wanted to dress like this or that person. As I moved into my own home, I wanted to imitate how others decorated as well.
It took me a long time to realize that God made us unique for a reason. We are called to be imitators of Christ as we are each have a unique way of expressing certain characteristics of God in our lives. There is no right or wrong expression if we are truly imitating Him. He is okay with my quirkiness, my blunt talk, my dry sense of humor, my need for facts and resources. He can use them for His glory because He is an amazing god. The same as He will use someone that is a people person, who has a true comedic personality or someone who isn’t as resourceful. The imitation and expression will look different, but He will use us if we are willing to imitate and obey Him.
Lord I want to imitate You in my walk and talk. I want to imitate You with my actions and inactions. I know that there are characteristics of You that others might not appreciate in me, teach me to imitate You anyway. In Jesus name amen.
