“He had also seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first daughter Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch.” Job 42:13-14
This Scripture stuck out to me in the reading today although it had little to do with the theme of of other Scriptures. The study I am doing was about how we can’t judge where we are in the present. We have to look at the end results. As a Christian, we are guaranteed that is a place of victory.
What stood out to me is that God listed the females names but not Job’s sons. I took the time to look up the meaning of the daughters’ names.
Jemimah means day by day. Keziah means an aromatic root that is peeled. Keren-happuch means horn of cosmetic, paint or antimony (eye shadow).
I won’t pretend to know the significance of those names. But God doesn’t do things like that by accident. There are very few daughters names that are listed in a genealogy. These daughters names are not mentioned elsewhere in Scriptures.
I do know that it is important to take things day by day. It is important to praise God through our trials. Our praise is a fragrant aroma to God. It is important to keep our eyes on God and not be downcast when we are going through trials. Maybe Job learned that as well through the trials as well.
Prayer – Lord, teach me to go deeper into Your word, to find the hidden things.
