Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great deeds of terror, all of which the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him. Deuteronomy 4:34-35
I have not given much thought before to all that God did in making the Israelites His chosen people. I have looked at the individual thing, like how Abraham and Sarah were without child and God blessed them with Isaac in their old age. I have thought about the signs God showed Isaac, Jacob and his twelve sons. I have never put together all the trials they walked through in becoming a nation.
Thinking about the many wonders that were done for and before them. Even just considering the 40 years in the wilderness following their slavery in Egypt. The parting of the Red Sea, walking on dry land, the destruction of the army following. Then a pillar of fire and cloud that led them. The manna from heaven, the quails and the water to drink that sustained them throughout their journey. Not to mention just the daily things they walked through, journeying through the land of enemies and even giants. His protection and provision came time and time again.
Yet, despite all they have seen from Him, there were still times they doubted and turned their backs completely on God. Maybe that is why God said “remember” so many times. If they could walk through those many things and still turn their backs, I need to make sure I intentionally remember all that God has done for me. I don’t want to fall into the same trap! I want to remember that the Lord God is my God!!
Prayer – Lord, I do not ever want to loose sight of all You have done for me. I never want to be in a position that I would turn my back to You or walk away from You again. Let me remember all that You have done for me. I don’t want to take You or all that You have done for granted.
