Like Scarlet, White Snow

“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
    they shall become like wool. Isaiah 1:18

My mind has a hard time not seeing the prophetic picture of Christ in this passage He washed us white as snow. The devotion I’m reading mentions in the book of Talmud, the writing of the rabbis, that on Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, a scarlet cord representing the people’s sins is tied to the temple doors. When everything was complete each cord on the door would turn white. Were the rabbis trying to say Jesus was not the fulfillment of this prophecy? Were they instead trying to say that this passage is explained by a supernatural event?

The devotion went on to say that this stopped after the death of Christ. I don’t know much about the Talmud but I’m interested in learning more from the source. Regardless, I know that Christ made me white as snow. Now I am just more amazed that He turned a red cord white every year.

Lord, there are so many little things I want to learn more about. I want to know the mysteries that are hidden in Your word. Reveal to me, as I search Your word.
