Headed for Destruction

Passage – For many — I have told you about them often before, and even now I say it with tears — live as enemies of the Messiah’s execution-stake. They are headed for destruction! Their god is the belly; they are proud of what they ought to be ashamed of, since they are concerned about the things of the world. Philippians 3:18-19

Restated in own words – Many live as enemies of the cross, headed for destruction. Their God is food, they brag on what they should be ashamed of and are concerned about worldly things.

Application to life – I feel like at times, “those headed for destruction”, the description fits me. I am often controlled by my appetite. I can eat too much and I often lack control. I also have bragged about things that I shouldn’t. Things like new possessions, manipulation of others to get what I wanted, people bowing to what I want because of my personality. Those are not things that I should be proud of at all. Those are worldly things. I want God to be the Lord of my life. I want my bragging to be for God’s glory not my own. I want my attention to be on the eternal things.

Your response back to God – Lord, I am sorry. I am ashamed of my behaviors. I know that I have given You these areas before but I give them to You again as I see where I have taken them back from You. I love You Lord and I want my life to honor You. Help me, Father God to eat and drink for Your glory as Your word says. Grow fruit of self-control in my life. Help me to keep my mouth shut when things are not of You and help me to let everything I do bring glory to You. Help me not to manipulate others or use the personality You have given me for anything that does not honor You. In Jesus name. Amen.
